William "Bill" Lewis

William (Bill) Lewis, 78, resident of Rossville Georgia, passed away Tuesday May 13 2025 at a local hospital. Bill was born on September 23, 1946. He was preceded in death by his father John L. Lewis Sr, his mother Winona Williams Lewis, his brother John L. Lewis Jr, and his wife Annette Moore Lewis. Bill attended Rossville High School and was a proud graduate of the class of 1964 and an active member of the Rossville High School Alumni Association reunion planning committee. After graduating high school, he began working as a new car salesman at Andy Trotter Pontiac and was on their company softball team. He later began a career at Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse as an outside contractor salesman as well as assitant manager at 4 different locations throughout his 30 year career until retiring. Bill's passion included the sport of NASCAR and attending races in Bristol, Atlanta, and Talladega 2 times a year since 1969. He also enjoyed hunting in Colorado and Montana annually, as well as fishing in Tellico Plains. He also spent many days outdoors riding his motorcycle he considered to be his "pride and joy" which was his 1971 Honda CB750 that he had restored and won many "Best in Class" trophies over the years. Bill was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan and spent time watching their games and classic western movies on TV. Most importantly Bill was a true family man who spent most of his quality time with his daughter and his 2 grandchildren. He will always be known to selflessly provide for them, for anything they always needed. He was a true Daddy's girl and best friend to his daughter. All that knew Bill, knew that she was the most important part of his life. Bill was a faithful believer in God and a member of First Baptist of Fort.Oglethorpe where he was baptized at an early age. Throughout his life, Bill's faith in God provided him with many years of strength and determination. This later became apparent and obvious to so many in his last precious days He will be greatly and utterly missed. Those left behind to honor his memory are his daughter, Christina Lewis Thornton, his grandson Hayden Thornton whom he loved dearly and mentored to from the day he was born, his grandaughter Wisdom Thornton, he nicknamed as "Lil Bit", and his brother Richard Lewis, who he considered more than just a brother. Services to honor and remember Bill's memorable life, will be held at the Chapel of W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 2.p.m. Interment will follow at Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 22, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. and also prior to the service on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 12 noon till 2 p.m. Arrangements by W.L.
