Mary Nelma Hicks Costner

January 24, 1945 ~ November 17, 2021

Mary Nelma Hicks Costner, 76, of Chickamauga, GA passed away on Wednesday, November 17, 2021.

She was born in Winchester, Virginia on January 24, 1945 to the late Nelms Kyle and Mary Hammerly Hicks and had lived in the North Georgia area for most of her life.  She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Ringgold where she loved to sing in the choir.  She was an avid reader, a lover of the outdoors and a champion for the protection and caring treatment of animals. She enjoyed her regular meetings with her friends at the book club, playing dominos, serving the North Georgia Animal League and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who possessed a sweet and loving disposition and cared deeply for her family and friends – always placing the needs of others before her own. She will be truly missed.  She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jennifer Gass.

Survivors include: her loving husband of more than 25 years Roger Costner,Sr.; children, Leanne Brown, Alan Lowery, Ginger (John) Hise,  Cristine Hill, Tonya Curtis, Rod (Kelly) Costner; sister, Jenny (Tim) Waters;  grandchildren, Amanda (Adam) Dillinger, Matthew (Susie) Sane, Lucy Brown, Eric Brown, Melissa Gass, Katie Costner, Trey Costner, Brandi Dixon and Bryan Baughn and Crystal Sane; nieces, Amy Gawler, Kimberly Waters, Katie Waters; and nephew, Joey (Kathryn) Waters; great-grandsons, Noah, Owen and Luke Dillinger and numerous extended family & friends.  

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 22, 2021 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Bro. Rob Borders officiating.  Burial will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday and prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: North Georgia Animal Alliance, P.O.
