Carthell Rogers

October 5, 1956 ~November 16, 2021

Carthell Rogers, 65, of Rossville, Georgia went home peacefully in his sleep to our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 16, 2021.  Carthell was a lifelong resident of Rossville and was a graduate of Rossville High School.  He was an avid Tennessee Vols fan and was always hopeful for a winning season.  He loved joking with people and making them laugh.  Carthell was very active in his community and served as Director of the Rossville Recreation Center for many years.  He also served as a Director for the Scenic City Football League and had been recently appointed to the Walker County Board of Education and was very proud to serve.  Over the years he received numerous awards for his service to his community, but more than anything, Carthell loved his family and friends alike.  He was a kind and generous soul and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  His family would like to say thank you for the overwhelming community support over the years and during this difficult time.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley Rogers;  step-father, Sam Stewart;  father-in-law, Wilbert Haggard and lifelong friend, Terry Nida.
Left to cherish Carthell’s memory are his loving wife of more than 41 years, Pam Haggard Rogers;  son, Matthew Rogers;  mother, Greta Stewart;  sister, Shelia & (Calen) Hall;  granddaughter, Desiraye Rogers; mother-in-law, Wilma Haggard; sister-in-law, Angela & (Kent) Stephens;  brother-in-law, Wendell Haggard;  aunt, Joyce & (Edward) Yates;  nieces, Haley Hall, Brooke & (Josh) Chance and last but not least his four legged kids, Peyton and Millie and numerous extended family & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Bro. Eddie Cantrell officiating.  Entombment will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 3 – 9 p.m. on Thursday and prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

It was my good fortune to work with Carthell many times over the years through “his” Rossville youth sports teams. He was one of the finest people I have known. Hopefully, his many friends, coaches, leaders, and the hundreds (thousands?) of children he impacted over the years got to know him well enough to see the twinkle in his eye, when he asked a question or simply requested more information.
My sympathies to his family and all those others who loved and respected this fine man … the community of Rossville has lost one of its most caring citizens.
