Robert “R.L.” Lewis Templeton, 89, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Thursday, September 9, 2021, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of the Ringgold area, he was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War and a retired employee of Combustion Engineering where he worked for 36 years. R.L. was a longtime member of the Ringgold First Baptist Church where in previous years he was a member of the adult choirs, served as a Deacon and served on several other committees at the Church. At the age of 87 he earned his fifth-degree black belt at Jessie Thornton’s United Karate Studios. He is preceded in death by his son, Victor Lewis Templeton; parents, Albert Victor and Jesse Mae Walton Templeton; sisters, Evelyn Alford and Sara Sexton; and brothers, Kenneth Templeton, William Templeton, Austin Templeton, Alvin Templeton and two infant brothers. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances Earline Smitherman Templeton of Ringgold, GA; two daughters, Renee Templeton (Scott) McClanahan of Ringgold, GA and Selina Templeton (John) Riley of Ringgold, GA; four sisters, Novella Carlock, Pat Holsomback of Ringgold, GA, and Connie Fouts of Chickamauga, GA; three brothers, Larry Templeton and Garry Templeton of Ringgold, GA, and Danny Templeton of Chickamauga, GA; six grandchildren, Tabatha Templeton, Jonathan Anderson, Trey (Miranda Williams) Riley, Julia (Shawn) Henry, Rob (Lauren) Riley and Josh (Ashley) Riley; seven great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. R.L.’s family would like to thank Chattanooga Hospice, extended family and friends for their outpouring of love and support during this difficult time. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 16, 2021 with Pastor Eric Kennedy officiating at Ringgold First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Garden’s South. The family will receive friends 10-11 A.M. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions can be made to Ringgold First Baptist Church, 7611 Nashville St., Ringgold, GA 30736.
