Dwight Hugh Sparks

May 22, 1940 – July 24, 2021

Dwight Hugh Sparks age 81, of Chickamauga, Georgia went home to be with The Lord Saturday – July 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jackson County, Alabama to the late Virgil Hugh & Birdie Lorene Green Sparks. He graduated from Sylvania High School – Class of 1959. After graduation, he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1962 and was a proud veteran. He was a truck driver for Burlington Industries, Shaw Industries, SAIA Motor Freight and Sims Sod Farms. He enjoyed driving tractor trailers for over fifty years and was known as “Spark Plug” or “Sparky”. He was an avid Alabama Football Fan and supported them by being at many games – Roll Tide Roll!!! He was also an Atlanta Braves fan and attended several games as well. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass Music on the radio and going to festivals. He resided in Rossville, Georgia for forty-three years, before moving to Chickamauga, Georgia in 2005. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Rossville, Georgia. Along with his parents: he is preceded in death by his brother: Rodney Sparks and sister-in-law: Marlene Culver Steele. He is survived by his wife of sixty years: Billie June Culver Sparks,  their children: Anita (Rev. Derrell) O’Neal, Ritchie Sparks all of Chickamauga, GA, sisters: Annie Ruth Thorne of Chickamauga, GA, JoAnn (Bobby) Vaughn of Dadeville, AL, sister-in-law: Carolyn Sparks of Henagar, AL, brother-in-law: Randall Steele of Chickamauga, GA, and to those who called him “Pap-pa Plug” his grandchildren: Jordan (Stevie) Smith of Dalton, GA, Jensen (Bradley) Floyd of Chickamauga, GA, Landon O’Neal of Marietta, GA, great-grandchildren: Brady David and Caroline Morgan Smith, Josie Rebecca Floyd, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday morning prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am – Thursday – July 29, 2021 in the chapel with Reverend Derrell O’Neal officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Veterans National Cemetery.     Dewight will always be a true friend of mine and many others we fought side by side to put out fires in the rossvlle fire dept. along with other brothers we had he was a man without fear and always by our side in any situation we will miss you thanks for everything you did for everyone in need rest in peace walt Norman , Wendell holder, ad all others who feel the same we will miss you !!!!!

    Dwight was my Uncle, I always looked up to him and respected his opinion or advice, my mother ( Anne Thorne ) adored her brother it will tear a hole in her heart he will be remembered for his love of his family and for his football team Alabama Crimson Tide may he rest in peace
