Katheryn Hegwood Pilgrim

Katheryn Hegwood Pilgrim, 84, passed away Sunday, June 20th.  She was born in Naomi, Georgia, near Lafayette, to the late Horace Shields Hegwood and Ethel Williams Hegwood, on April 1, 1937.  She was raised on a farm in Lafayette as the youngest of 7 siblings including two brothers and four sisters. It was in high school in Lafayette where was recognized as Miss Lafayette High, the Football Queen, and Most Beautiful in the Senior Class.  It was there that she also met her future husband, Buddy Pilgrim, who was a year older than her and star of the football team. Katheryn was an accomplished singer with a strong high soprano voice.  Katheryn married Buddy after high school and spent two years at Berry College, where she focused on voice lessons and music. In their 56 years of marriage, they lived in locations all over the US including towns in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Colorado, and Illinois, where Katheryn made many friends that she has kept up with over the years.  They also raised two sons, Jeff, and Andy.  Aside from her parents, Katheryn was preceded in death by her brothers Conn and Gene, and sisters Edelene, Jimmye, Wylene, and husband Buddy. She is survived by her sister Sue Howell, Jeff and Andy with, their spouses Laurie and Candy, and the grandchildren Jessica, Aaron, Matthew, and Allie, with many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.  The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Elizabeth Lee United Methodist Church, with Pastor Zach Fitzpatrick officiating.  Interment will follow in LaFayette Memory Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday and prior to leaving for the service, at the funeral home.  Online guest book at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.  Arrangements by W.     Our sincere sympathy to the family on the passing of Kathryn. We were Leewood neighbors many years with Buddy and Kathryn. May God bless and comfort all their family.
