Benjamin Wyatte Castleberry

Rev. Benjamin Wyatte Castleberry, 82, of LaFayette, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 25, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Graysville, Georgia to the late, Charles Robert & Leoma Blevins Castleberry and had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life. He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. and was a retired Minister and Music Director for several local Baptist churches that he served for over 55 years. He was a member of Woodstation Baptist Church, but had recently served as the Music Director for Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was the founder of Unity Baptist Church in LaFayette, where he served for more than 10 years and then served at Mill Creek Baptist Church in Gaylesville, AL for another 10 years. He was the Moderator for the Lookout Mountain Baptist Association for 2 years and was previously employed with Singer Cobble as an Electrician for more than 43 years. He enjoyed boating, spending time with his family & friends, but his passion in life was singing and preaching for The Lord. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was also preceded in death by 7 siblings.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 60 years, Jackie Cavin Castleberry; daughters & sons-in-law, Dale & (Bobby) Swafford and Jill & (Mark) Shirley; 4 grandchildren, Matt & (Alex) Franks, Jon & (Jessi) Franks, Ben Shirley and Brooke Shirley; 2 step-grandchildren, Kandis Swafford and Amber Vint; 5 great grandchildren, Josh, Jase, Jax, Payten and Christopher Franks; sister-in-law, Jane Boyd; several nieces, nephews and numerous extended family & friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in the LaFayette Chapel with Rev. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the LaFayette Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday and prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Online guest book at www.wilsonfuneralhome.com.
