Neil James Westra

Neil James Westra

2 Timothy 4:6-8 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Neil J. Westra, has fought the good fight, he has always kept the faith, and he has finished his course. Husband, father, grandpa, great grandpa, good friend, and author has stepped from earth to Glory.

Neil had a very hard life growing up. Later in life someone convinced him to write a gospel track about when he came to know Jesus. Then at the age of 78 he sat down at his computer, and with one finger typed his life story in to book form. It took him two years, then had it published. “THE NIGHTMARE OF A FIVE YEAR OLD” By Neil James Westra. After the book was published and on the market, his granddaughter Ali sent a copy to the world wide radio program “UNSHACKLED” where it was dramatized, and aired worldwide.

Neil was not a wealthy man, but was a very rich man in that he knew how to help others. For years he had a jail ministry at the Allegan County Sheriff’s Dept. in Allegan, Michigan. There he led countless numbers of men to the Lord behind bars. He had a compassionate heart for others.

He also served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before retiring in 1998 after more than 50 years as an electrician.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Cornelius and Georgia Mae Straton Westra and 8 siblings. He is survived by his loving wife, Cathrine “Kitty” Westra, children, Niel “Casey” J. Westra, Rene (Eddie) Everette and Joe (Donna) Westra, grandchildren, Eli Everette, Ali (Nick) Clemmons, Keely (Danny) Christian, Keegan Westra Keturah Westra and Kolton Westra, great grandchild, Ezra and several nieces and nephews.
