Gary Lee Johnson, 69, of Fort Oglethorpe, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 25, 2021. He was born October 25, 1951 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the fourth child of the late Jack and Erma Callahan Johnson and was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga & North Georgia areas. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Nativity in Fort Oglethorpe and graduated from Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe High School in 1969. He was an important figure in the revitalization of the Chattanooga Choo-Choo as Vice President of Food and Beverage from 1971-1985. Afterwards, he was employed by Mountain City Stove, Coca-Cola Classic Foods and Five Star Food Service. He loved baseball and coached many youth recreational teams throughout the years. Gary fought cancer valiantly in the past several years, having bladder cancer and more recently, throat cancer. He was a loving and devoted brother, father and grandfather that will be truly missed by all who knew him. Gary was also preceded in death by older brother, Tommy Jack Johnson.
