Charles William Bates, age 88 of Ringgold passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. He lived in the North Georgia most of his life. He graduated from Lakeview high School, served in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War, worked at Dupont for 40 years. He was an active member of Salem Baptist church in Ringgold, until his health kept him from attending. Charles was a member of the American Legion, and Shriners. He loved camping, golfing and flying remote airplanes. He also loved to take things apart and make them work his way. He was preceded in death by his mother, Tressie Dickert Wells and step-father, F.M. “Bill” Wells. He is survived by his wife, of 44 yrs., Hattie Pat Bates, daughters, Sherry Williams, Margie (Glenn) Kay, Angie O’Shields and Regina (Jim) Blalock, grandchildren, Tyler Williams, Carrie Lewis, Sam O’Shields, Ellen and Julie Kay, Michael (Tosha) Bailey, and Will Blalock, 6 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, sister Brenda (Lamar) Hodges, brothers, Floyd (Mickey) Wells and David (Susan) Wells. A private family graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Lakewood Memory Gardens-South, with Pastor Chris Davidson officiating. In lieu of flowers donations in Charles’ memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 225 N Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60601 or Shriners Hospital for Children, Medical Center Lexington 110 Conn Terrace, Lexington, KY 40508.
