Freddie “Fred” Simpson Slater, 84, of Ringgold, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020. A native of Flat Rock, Alabama, he has lived most of his life in the North Georgia, Chattanooga area. Fred was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a former employee of Parkridge Hospital where he worked in the I.T. Department and was of the Methodist faith. He was a kind, giving man who always helped others. He is preceded in death by his son, Chris Slater; parents, Hugh E. and Lavina Bowman Slater; brothers, Bryce Slater, Bill Slater and Doug Slater; and sister Betty Jo Hill. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Nell Harris Slater of Ringgold, GA.; two children, Tammy (Keith) Slater Dale of Colorado Springs, CO., and Jim Slater of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA.; two sisters, Clara Schofield of Flat Rock, AL., and Dora Atkins of Ft. Payne, AL.; two brothers, Dan Slater of Flat Rock, AL., and Butch Slater of Springfield, IL.; sister-in-law, Doris Slater of Flat Rock, AL.; grandson, Caleb Slater; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday September 4, 2020 in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at Lakewood Memory Gardens-South. The family will receive friends 12-1 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to help with relocation expenses to Colorado.
