Donald DeFoe Scoggins, 80, of Tunnel Hill, Georgia passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Donald survived a near fatal gunshot accident when he was 13 while hunting with buddies. Many people prayed earnestly for him and he was truly a miracle to survive. A lifelong resident of the Catoosa County area, he was a 1958 graduate of Ringgold high school where he played baseball and basketball. He loved baseball and was a good pitcher for many local teams. He was an Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. Donald attended Smith’s Chapel United Methodist Church, was a retired employee of Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant where he worked for 18 years and a former employee of City Dodge where he worked for almost 6 years. He loved his family and will be truly missed. He is preceded in death by his son, Greg Scoggins; parents, John Dewey and Mattie Lee Cullens Scoggins; two sisters, Lillie Ware and Lois Cornelison; and brother, Frank Scoggins. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sue Hannah Scoggins of Tunnel Hill, GA.; daughter, Melissa Watkins of Tunnel Hill, GA.; five sisters, Marie Massengill of Ringgold, GA., Barbara Ensley of Ringgold, GA., Johnnie Bramlett of Ringgold, GA, Reba Payne of Calhoun, GA., and Linda Forrester of East Ridge, TN.; four grandchildren, Garrett Smith, Brittany Seeley, Bailee Scoggins and Mallory Smith; six great grandchildren, Taylor Smith, Kade Smith, Lukas Smith, Elijah Seeley, Aerron Seeley and A’riyah Seeley; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Smith’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Smith’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1-3 P.M. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home Wallis-Stewart Chapel Ringgold, Georgia.
