Mrs. Joyce June Newton

Joyce June Wonder Newton age 77, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, went to be with The Lord on Sunday – March 8, 2020. She was born June 26, 1942 in Jonestown, PA, and lived there until she was 11, when her family moved to Middle Tennessee. She graduated from Giles County High School in 1960, as valedictorian of her class. On September 29, 1963, she married the love of her life, Wesley Calvin Newton. She came to work for Mayor Ralph Kelley in 1964, then again in 1967. When he left office, she transferred to the City Attorney's Office and worked there for the late Gene Collins, until 1969. In 1975, she went to work for Mayor Pat Rose, then Mayor Gene Roberts, until she transferred to Parks & Recreation in January 1992. In November 2004, Joyce retired from the City of Chattanooga after 31 years of service and was honored by many elected officials and friends. She was a dedicated Christian and member of Lookout Mountain United Methodist Church, where she has faithfully served as their pianist and organist for many years. She was pre-deceased by her father Franklin Dewey Wonder. She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Calvin Newton; son Wes Newton; daughter Jackie Sue Harling and son-in-law Keith Harling; granddaughter Samantha Ashley Harling, all of Lookout Mountain, GA; mother Goldie June Oberholtzer Wonder of Bartlett, TN; sister Loretta (Bobby) Flaherty; nieces and nephews Mark (Mary Beth) Miller, all of Bartlett, TN; Missy (Don) Sullivan; children Jarrod Sullivan, Rachel Sullivan, all of Germantown, TN. She is known as Joyce, Joycee, Mama, Nonni, and Sissy, by her family, but more importantly known as one of the kindest, most beautiful souls, upon which this world has ever been bestowed. She loved and will forever be loved and cherished by her family and all who knew her. To know Joyce was to love her, and all who did will forever be blessed because of her. She will be greatly missed, and heaven is indeed richer. Out of the concern of others, the family has chosen to have a Celebration of Joyce’s Life at a later date. Therefore the scheduled visitation and funeral service have been postponed. Arrangements by W. L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Homes – 555 West Cloud Springs Road – Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia 30742. Dear Ones, I just heard about the home going od your sweet Momma. My sister Sharon Peck Elmore reads more of my facebook than I do. She thought I knew this sad information but I missed hearing this. I’m so sorry. I loved your sweet Moma so much. I pray you all are doing OK. Your mom has been a huge blessing.
